Realize Different Functions of the Buttons in the Car

Vehicle development technology is constantly developing, and the configuration is getting higher and higher. The keys in the car are also constantly overlapping new, complex, and diverse forms. However, it is worth noting that it is important to remember to press the button randomly, because the wrong operation may bring you danger. So, how are the buttons in the car distributed? Let’s take a look.

Different functions of the buttons in the car

WayKen has worked with many automotive companies on in-car button projects from prototype development to mass production. Including sports cars, cars, trucks, motorcycles, and other different models of buttons. The process covers a variety of, mold, plastic wrap, die, CNC, and so on.

The layout of the buttons varies from car to car, but these buttons are usually arranged according to the relevant performance. So the general area is pretty much the same. For example, quick controls around the steering wheel, buttons on the seats, doors, and center console. The biggest difficulty is the buttons on the center console.

Steering wheel button

Steering wheels play an important role in making cars easy to handle and improving vehicle stability. We can consider 3D printing technology to make a prototype of a car steering wheel. The layout of the buttons on the steering wheel is usually easy for the driver to operate.

These multi-function buttons on the steering wheel are meant to be operated blindly directly on the steering wheel without being distracted to maneuver on the center control while driving. Reduce the safety hazards of driving. The steering wheel left and right button function contains volume adjustment, menu selection, car phone, etc.

Buttons near the steering wheel

Near the steering wheel, light control and wiper control are among the common buttons. For example, lighting control, in European series models, the headlights are controlled on the left side of the steering wheel. For Japanese models, it is integrated on the manual adjustment lever.

With the development of The Times, these functions have gradually realized automatic induction. Some cars have adaptive cruise control. Automatic headlights, all-weather lights, and parking indicators turn on automatically in adaptive cruise control. Of course, the position of the steering wheel itself can be adjusted. The lever is very easy to operate.

Seat buttons

The seats in the car are the parts we must touch, and the seat part components can be quickly converted from CAD models to physical characteristics by in-house CNC foam cutting and trimming engineering to meet display or testing deadlines. Commonly, the seats are divided into manually adjustable seats and electrically adjustable seats.

Manually adjustable seats are mainly electrically adjustable in up to eight directions. Electric is more flexible, up to 12 directions. Middle seat electric adjustment, this is to simulate the actual seat, divided into three functions, the top is to adjust the position of the headrest, the middle is to adjust the position of the backrest, the following horizontal, is to adjust the position of the seat below. For high-end cars, there will be additional heating, massage, and other functions.

Button on the car door

Window and door-related function keys are generally located on the doors. The buttons on the doors collect the window and mirror-related control functions, including mirror adjustment and folding and four-door window lift and lock functions. Door components are prototyped in aluminum, plastic, stainless steel, and brass. Exterior parts can be obtained through a combination of CNC and re-molding processes, using post-treatment such as polishing, painting, and oxidation.

The adjustment of this area is also simple. Such as the center control, window lift, rearview mirror, etc. However, the Japanese and Korean systems to control the rearview mirror button generally used to be placed on the left side of the steering wheel instrument panel. Another special example is the Mercedes-Benz, the seat adjustment and seat memory also put together on the door, indeed more convenient to adjust, without deliberately reaching down to reach.

Center console buttons

Center console buttons

The production of the center console prototype requires plastic materials and metal materials to follow up on different design concepts, combining processes such as painting, oxidizing, and plating. The car center console can be said to be the area with the most buttons distributed inside the car, why does the car center console have so many buttons?

Because it mainly collects the air conditioning control and multimedia control, is the place to control the car air conditioning, car comfort, and entertainment function adjustment. According to the design of different manufacturers, for some cars, the center console is a large LCD touch screen, part of the button is transferred to the LCD touch screen.

Some high-end cars have a head-up display function, the speed, navigation, and other important driving information, projected onto the windshield in front of the driver, so that drivers try to do not lower their heads, do not turn their heads to see the speed, navigation, and other important driving information.

Button near the gear knob

Plastic and metal are the common materials used in the prototyping of gear knob components, with post-treatment processes such as polishing, plating, and oxidation. The buttons near the handlebar area are closely related to the car’s performance and driving controls. The driver does not need to leave the handlebar too far to quickly control the performance of the vehicle.

The family car area is more set up with buttons for automatic parking, reverse radar switch, tire pressure monitoring, and ESP off. The different performance of the car focus is also different if the late launch of some cars has replaced the traditional gear lever with a knob control gear.

How to get the button prototype?

different car buttons

In the automotive industry, we have extensive manufacturing experience in both exterior and interior parts. Among other projects, we also had prototype projects that dealt with buttons. For button prototypes, if functional testing is not considered, we can quickly deliver 3D printing solutions, and customers can review the appearance of the new design for the first time.

If you need to verify appearance and function, we can obtain small batch tests by means of molds. At WayKen, we also support one-stop service, spray painting, screen printing, radium carving, and other post-processing that can meet the diverse customized services of our customers.
